Dragoon Base

Connecting the Troopers of Today with the Veterans of Yesterday.

In an effort to get the trivia contest moving along, I am going to post another prize and another question. This question is open to one and all. First correct answer posted here wins the prize.

The Grand Opening question for the gold spurs still continues, and is restricted to combat vets.

This contest is for a border tab, black with yellow lettering, like the one on my Stetson.

Question:
Who is the first female to command a squadron in the 2nd Cavalry?

Can't just be the state and year, has to be the location and date.

Would August,1838 be close enough?

Here is The only information I could find.
In August of 1838 Captain Beall lead two troops of Dragoons into "The land of the trembling earth".
The Okefenokee swamp South of Waycross, Georgia
I can't find any record of any skirmishes they got into but according to the history I read,
General Charlie Floyd, of the Georgia militia, followed the same trail three months later only to find an abandoned Seminole village.
I'm guessing Beall found what he was looking for.

Your on the right track bro. Just not quite enough info. I'm being a real hard ass on this one, and haven't posted the answer yet. Just wondering if the info was out there somewhere else I didn't know about.

The answer will be made perfectly clear on the History Center soon if nobody comes up with it first. Still working on the section.

By the way, if you get the right answer Steve, I'll replace the border tab with something else appropriate.

I 'm getting tired of reading but I'll bet the answer is in this book;
just google "The origin, progress, and conclusions of the Florida war:"

Heck, I got tired after reading the complete title;

The origin, progress, and conclusion of the Florida war : to which is appended a record of officers, non-commissioned offices, musicians, and privates of the U.S. army, navy, and marine corps, who were killed in battle, or died of disease. As also the names of officers who were distinguished by brevets, and the names of others recommended. Together with the orders for collecting the remains of the dead in Florida, and the ceremony of interment at St. Augustine, East Florida, on the fourteenth day of August, 1842 (1848).

You can search and read all 557 pages on google books.
