In an effort to get the trivia contest moving along, I am going to post another prize and another question. This question is open to one and all. First correct answer posted here wins the prize.
The Grand Opening question for the gold spurs still continues, and is restricted to combat vets.
This contest is for a border tab, black with yellow lettering, like the one on my Stetson.
Question: Who is the first female to command a squadron in the 2nd Cavalry?
Alright kiddies, time for another trivia contest. This is a special Holiday Edition, and everybody is eligible, even you Wild Bill!!
The prize is a limited edition, numbered 2nd Cavalry Association medallion. Very heavy!
To win this beauty, you have to name SEVEN different Army units that were either entirely created directly from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, or were used to entirely create the 2nd Cavalry Regiment.
In 2006, when the Regiment was reflagged here at Ft. Lewis and went back to Germany, the old Regiment became 4th Bde, 2nd Inf Div and stayed at Ft. Lewis. Now come up with the unit that became the new 2nd Cavalry at that time and went to Germany and you'll have two of them. There are at least five more.
Guess I didn't make it clear enough. Seems to be one of my many faults.
I'm looking for other Army units foreign to the 2nd Cavalry footprint, like the 4/2 ID I listed above. 2nd Cavalry used to make an entirely new unit, for example if you took a bunch of guys from the 2nd Cavalry and used them to start an entirely new Cavalry regiment, which has happened more than once. Or another example is taking an entirely different unit and making it the 2nd Cavalry, which has happened several times. These are the seven I'm looking for, not just different designations of the 2nd Cavalry.
The designations would be, in order:
2d Regiment of Dragoons
2d Regiment of Riflemen
2d Regiment of Dragoons
2d Cavalry Regiment
2d Cavalry Group (Mechanized)
2d Constabulary Regiment
2d Armored Cavalry Regiment
2d Armored Cavalry Regiment (Light)
2d Cavalry Regiment
2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment
9th Armored Division didn't come from the 2nd Cavalry.
42d Cavalry Reconnaissance Mechanized was one of the 2nd Cavalry Squadrons.
66th Armored Field Artillery Battalion just became part of the 2d Constabulary.
199th Light Infantry Brigade is correct, because portions of that unit were used to create the entire 2nd Cavalry Regiment.
4/17 Cavalry Squadron only became part of the 2nd Cavalry.
4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division is correct, because part of the 2nd Cavalry became that entire unit.
1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division is correct because that entire unit became the entire 2nd Cavalry.
4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division is correct because that entire unit was created from the entire 2nd Cavalry.
Three to go, bro!!
Answer these bonus questions and I'll throw in a 2nd Cavalry Association 2009 baseball cap. Top quality!!
What is the name of the bier created in honor of 1st Squadron and what is the name of the braurei that brews it?
"I lost on Jeopardy, Baby Ohh,Ohh,Ohh" LOL
Long question, well I will be back in a cast day before Thanksgiving and have more time to study.
Good Luck Jim
