Does anyone remember why.....

While stationed in Amberg...the opportunuty came up to take a civilian tour of the East German border which my wife & I took. Very interesting...the host was explaining that at the beginning of the cold war.....all bridges between the two countries were tore down except one. I have pictures of it but for the life of me can't remember why this one bridge wasn't destroyed. Anyone know? Thanks
