I was in the cav from '74-'76, Nurnberg and Amberg (M Co). Many fond memories! I was a misassigned 11B, affectionately nicknamed "Grunt". I'll try to put up some old pic's later.

Okay, here's another one - Since I was a driver in the S-1 section, I got to drive for some of the officers from time to time. One Time I had Maj. Vogl (front seat) Cpt Deely & an Lt (back seat) in a jeep heading out of town toward the tank trails. Soooooo as we were approching the point where the pavement stops and the dirt begins, Cpt Deely calls from the back seat "Carter there's a bump up ahead", well I didn't slow down and "the bump" was where the road ended and dropped about a foot to the dirt road. Cpt Deely bounced off the roof of the jeep. I thought I was screwed for sure, but Maj. Vogl started laughing at him :-) so I knew I was safe after that.

Hey Gary, I had a similar experience in the field once. Where we were in this small town and a couple of our M60s got caught up in some tight street. I drove the 1st sgt to the location just in time to see one make turn and his back left deck took out the corner of a locals house. In the same field problem we had an E-5 back his M113 over the hood of a BMW. Good thing we sent the bills to uncle sam.

Hi Dragoons. If you want to see Amberg IN REAL TIME from home go on search for " Amberg, Germany ". They have 2 or 3 live video cams that you can access live feed. One is at the Marktplatz. You can see people walking around on the cobblestones. Enjoy.

Then while on the same trip to the field, we were sitting at a really tight turn by a farmer's old stone barn watching the M60's trying to make the right angle turn. One of them didn't quite make the turn and punched the barrel of the big gun right through the side of the barn and then tore it open.

Another time while driving pay guard, the Squadron was on manuvers all across the country side. We took a heliocopter out to field and picked up a jeep. While tooling around looking for the men to pay we were sitting on the side of a farmer's field and we were watching a chopper come in for a landing out in the field right beside the farmer's big pile of hay. Too bad by the time the chopper finished landing there was no hay left :-O

lol> had one such experience where i was walking towards HHQ from M Co. and some butter bar attempted to reprimand me for not saluting, at whitch time I shared with him that I DON'T SALUTE COLLEGE STUDDENTS, he was like my dog, tucked his tail and moved his way!
