Robert the "King" was assigned to 1/32nd Armor, stationed in Friedberg north of Frankfurt, at Ray barracks. I was assigned to 3/32nd Armor years later, same location. From everything I've been told, Elvis was a good soldier and did his duty, which is more than can be said for a lot of other entertainers in that era.

Elvis Presley served in Germany while I was there. Although his outfit was nowhere near ours, I do not recall a time when we were in convoy or on maneuvers somewhere that at least one soldier spotted Elvis driving a truck, driving a tank, or fueling a helicopter. He was everywhere although I never spotted him even once.

Robert, We would have a simulated air strike often on the Rock similar to what you mentioned. I had pics of this on old site not sure they made it on this new site, but these very daring pilots would literally make us hit the ground because they came in at such low altitudes. I was away a lot but heard that they would literally blow the tiles off of the barracks and other tales that went along with these air strikes. Segura, Morrow and Wallace could probably tell of many experiences to this.

I remember one morning when they lined the battalion up alongside the airstrip. We waited for some time with no briefing. In about 1/2 hour, two F-100 Supersabres dropped out of the sky and buzzed that little airstrip. After they had seemingly pointed straight up and disappeared, what appeared to be a large sheet of cellophane passed through the air following them. It was static electricity. It was said that they had been called in from North Africa at the same time we were told to line up beside the airstrip. It was quite a show of force, to me.

Hello Robert, great aerial picture of Bindlach. I found some who were stationed on the Rock who did not remember the airstrip. I did for I caught rides there many times. I do remember the trip from Bremerhaven train to Munich, back to Nuremberg then to Bayreuth, where I was meant by a no tarp duce and a half and got my first taste of German rain and mud up to Bindlach 1962

Good grief! It was not until the 16th page of comments that I ran into familiar dates and experiences. I was with the 2A/C when we "Gyroscoped" to Bremerhaven from Baltimore in February1958. We rode a train to Bayreuth and I do not remember how we got up to Christensen Barracks. I left Germany in February 1960. I enjoyed my time in Germany with my only regrets being the foolish things I did as a result of my youth. I did try to be a good soldier for the more part. As a member of "B" Company I drove the 1st Sgt. (Beamish) and the CO (1st Lt Greenberg) for a while, then went to Wheel and Track Vehicle school in Murnau. For my finishing act, I smashed a jeep (B-6) into a rock bridge outside of Moos. I have a few names, but if anyone remembers me, please attempt a contact. I have a few stories and pictures from my time there. Toujours Pret

Thanks Tim, its getting harder to remember exact details on some things after all these years. I cant even remember my own gunners name now, I just remember he was short and skinny , was married and had three or four kids.
