Ahhhh....but the roar of that Sheridan's engine would scare the hell out of the dead!

The M60 was a smooth unit compared to the Sheridan.

Almost rolled an M60 on a big red clay berm at Ft Knox during AIT. Made a sharp left turn and the ass-end slid around and over the edge. Can't figure out how the DI/TC managed to reach me so quick to kick me in the back of the head as he started screaming at me over the headset. Scared the crap out of me at a critical point in trying to get the tank from going over the side the rest of the way and I almost didn't make it.

Kept my foot in it and turned the t-bar to the left. Went along the edge of the berm at a 45 degree angle for awhile tearing hell out of it before the tracks finally grabbed and went back up over the edge. The DI was screaming and kicking me in the back of the helmet the whole time.

SP5 Dennis Grignon scared the crap out of me doing just that. I guess that's what I get for sleeping in the TC hatch!

What I wouldn't give to go tearin around Hohenfels in an M60 again. Honestly, some of the best times in my life. I spent a lot of time in that driver's compartment. Who didn't get wood takin a hard turn in 2nd gear at 25 mph. Sorry guys, gettin all misty about tankin.

That "prehistoric" M60A3 hadn't even been invented when many of us were there.

Driver on D-16 for M1 transition gunnery at Graf in spring 1985. Drove the prehistoric M60A3 for almost two years, got short and was assigned as the 1st Sgt's jeep driver until I ETS'd. My replacement in the driver's seat of D-16 was a "non-driving individual" and I was asked by the platoon leader to return as the driver for transition gunnery. My entire crew received AAMs for first round qualification on the new M1s.

Former M Company commander. Highest scoring tank company in USAREUR winter of 1971. Fond memories of Graf winters huddling behind the grill doors to stay warm.
