On my last enlistment in 1964 I ran into my brother at Ft. Polk, LA. It was the last time I ever saw him alive as he gave up his life in Vietnam four years later. He was in B Trp 3rd Sqd 5th Cav of the 9th Infantry Division at the end.

After leavin the CAV, I got sent to Polk where the SGM of 3/21FA cared more for area Beautification than combat training!

what about having all the privates picking up pinecones....I hated it for them...lol.....swept pine needles at J&L Marina....goes on and on....

I remember the Reception Station at Tigerland, after all the haircuts/shots/dogtags/pushups/ I made a friend and we decided on the ride to our boot camp AO we would be the last off the cattle wagon so as not to do anything wrong Until....... The senior drill stepped on the truck and told us that "the last off the truck should give his soul to God because his ass belonged to him" We knocked folks down getting off that cattle truck!

Brian Millbanks was the first person I heard of from the Cav being sent to POLK ;got assigned to 3-19 FA, in OCT 81 I got my promotion orders to E-5,went to extend; already had a slot for me in 3-21 FA-- an 8 Inch Unit where they had no 13 FOX Direct assets and couldn't figure out to do with us out to do with me and my team that I inherited

Oky Doky here I am..left there in Sept. 85, and was back in Leesville, New Years Day. ended up working at J&L Marina (bas haven now), 2 summers and a winter...loved the people...be good..johnny
