Happy Thanksgiving to all . We used our M114s for a day or two in the winter of 64/65 be cause of a snow storm but they did not do much better then the M151s . We float our M114s ,could have been same time as your pictures Wayne ,all of them floated but we did have some seals leak on the drain plate.

in 83, we took the m60a3's in side that range ,but only because the thermal tank sight allowed us to observe well past the border with the laser range finders ability to range a target. This was to enhance the GSR teams. And no, it wasn't kosher as we always bugged out before dawn, heaven forbid if we got caught in broad daylight.

It was 1K for tanks 500 meters for APC's,we occasionally took the 113's as a back up for the Jeeps. Got followed by a gold Mercedes once,we stopped the Jeep in the road, busted out of the treeline behind him with the 113. Turned out to be a SMLLM,couldn't do anything.

We took 113's on patrol when Regt. approved and had them at op's many times. Although one had to be careful not to point the .50 cal towards the border. Same thing went for a Sheridan, the main gun had to be oriented away from the border.

As for the comment about no armor in the 1km zone, we took our m551's, the entire troop, on a border trace once in 1974. Had to be REAL careful not to have any gun tubes pointing towards the border as we went along.

Trained on the 113ACAV and 114 at Fort Knox in '71. We traded in our 114's in late '72 or early '73 for 3 M551's per platoon. Picture that 283 chevy motor pulling a 7 ton vehicle down the road. In the mud they would overheat causing you to halt to let em cool down. It was surprising how many troopers could squeeze inside on a cold night. The 20mm cannon was very accurate and it could fire in 5 different modes. It fired HEIT and APIT rounds.
