Absolutely! He was actually the Troop Commander's driver on loan. He had already been in courntry for 2 years. At this point the only things I knew how to find was the K Troop orderly room, the officer's club and my BOQ.
That sounds like me. Three days after arriving in Amberg (K Troop) they sent me off to Vilseck for a 1 week Cav Platoon Leader course. I had a jeep, driver, map and a compass. Good experience.

The border, what a time that was. Had the honor(?) of being one of the first to take a tank company to the border. Can you imagine 17 tanks at Camp May? Between the border, Hoenfels and Graf we managed to be away from home 6 months a year.

Notable events after leaving Amberg - 5 years of civilian life, then signed up with the CA Army National Guard; Div Cav Troop Commander, full-time technician, S-3 tank battalion, and S-3 mechinized brigade.
In 1983 I went back to active duty working for the ARNG; served on the Army Science Board in Washington, DC, Senior advisor to the Army Research institue in Boise, ID, Mobilization Officer at 4th US Army at Fort Sheridan, IL, and finally worked for the US Army Test and Evaluation Command, in Washington, DC.
Retired from ARNG Title 10 (active duty) as LTC in 1995. Did a stint with Booz-Allen & Hamilton after retirement, and eventually moved back to the West Coast. Retired again from IT department of a regional BlueCross/BlueShield company in 2008.

George, Lynn said he sees a guy named Wayne Armstrong a lot,he drove the wrecker when we were at Pond Barracks.He was shocked that we hooked up on the site .he remembers the times we went out to the forestto track planes and then went to the gausthaus for some grub and a POP.It would be nice if he got on site.It is something that us oldtimers remember the OLD times from 40years ago.I imagine some of our wifes must think we guys are crazy talking war stories.
