I wonder where the 151 hardtops came from. Were they converted in Germany, or did they come from the factory that way?

We had HUMMERS when I was there in 89 -90, they where pretty good, heaters didn't work all that great but at least you didn't freeze. They were kind of wide for going through the woods. One time we were told that there was a 1k violator in an area...

Haven driven both...Hummer...hands down. Nothing could stop 'em. Except maybe a curb taken at high speed and 'cruit driver. Better accomodations with the kevlar roof kit too. The 151 was a tough bastard though.

All my exp was with the 151 Jeep driving E-1 Capt. Horton in Bamberg, and a CSM in Ft. Hood Tx. I did get to drive a Hummer in Tx. during transition, but I was processing out and my exp. was short. On the comments of the 151; every one was on po...

Thought the 151's were great in the 1962-65 period - not too big or loud; hard to get stuck, and when you did on patrol there was enough manpower and the other 151 to solve almost any problem. Had a number of them flip when we first got them, usua...

Yes. Cpt. Cruz started that in the early 80's. He was there for the first year I was in K-troop. The picture on the shirt was supposed to be him. He was a Green Beret. A pretty bad dude. We always ran with him and his dog Onyx for pt every morning...

"Suffa" was the CO's favorite saying. I think his name was Cruz, a latino, infantry guy. If my limited memory serves me, he commmanded around 82-83. They hated his PT sessions, but were very proud of the distinction.

How was the Border Patrol done in the beginning? Before Camp Reed or Camp May were built, or for that matter, before there was an FRG, how was the BP done? Did the 2nd Cav have the mission right from the first?

You did a good job, Derrick. Hey, I remember Sgt Ponder. He was my TC for a while in K-troop before he went to the mailroom. He used to tell me about going to see a Jimi Hendrix concert back in the 60s. I could sit and listen to Sgt Ponder for hou...

Toujours Pret Stan,
Welcome to the new DragoonBase, the new Base has plenty of newer features, lots of sub-groups,(ie,F-Trp,Amberg,Medics,etc.) and links for 2nd Cav News and History.
Robb Russell has posted some tips for navigating the site (ie,photos, links, ect) in the Forum.
Make sure you stop by and read the latest Tacoma Dave ‘Triva Quiz’, learn some 2nd Cav history and you can even win a kool prize.
If you need any help, you can contact Robb, or any of the 5 admins listed at the top of the page, or just yell out, another member may be able to help you.
And our only wish, ‘Keep it clean’, use our Real names/with Pictures(pix from back in the day, work best for searching for Brothers, but any picture will do).
And that you please tell all your friends about the new DragoonBase.

Thanks again for joining Dragoon Base, and for your service to our great country,
Jesse Kelley
