Dave: I had not thought of it in a while, but once in Grafenwöhr we were preparing for war games. My CO lived in some housing at the base proper. After I dropped him off, it was still light so I decided to do a little cross-country driving in B-6....
When I was in the MP's in Neu Ulm 1973 we did that to an M151A1 1/4 ton one night chasing rabbits in the fog at the Rod & Gun Club. All we got out of it was a chewing out and a brand new A2 that was much faster. We never took it out chasing rabbit...
My dad was the first person in Europe to receive the report of the death of General Rose. His platoon of the 99th Recon Troop were in the area and heard the shot that killed the general. One of the guys in his platoon found the general and reporte...

Hi Robert,
Please call me Dave. Mr. Gettman was my father. He was a Chief Warrant Officer with the 2nd ACR. We left Bindlach in May 1955 prior to the 2nd Cavalry leaving for Ft. Meade.
I see you got your picture changed. HOORAH!! Robb is hard to get hold of sometimes. He has numerous websites to deal with, so he is a pretty busy guy. I also drop out of sight from time-to-time in order to take care of business.
As far as the F-word in the horse story, I did have the G-rated version posted for awhile, but as the warning on the front page of my site reads:
"This is a Cavalry site. Many of the stories here are told in the words of the men who experienced them. No attempt has been made to 'smooth the edges' or 'soften the story' for the viewing public. In the same aspect, no attempt has been made to cover up the names of the men who fought and died, nor the circumstances that brought about their final acts. It is the task of the Cavalry to take the fight to the enemy and disrupt his ability to function - a task that we perform quite well. Family members seeking information about a loved one may find more than they had hoped for."
I did refrain from posting Patton's "full" speech though. That one was a real scorcher!!!
Robert, your picture of the M-59 brought back some memories, I was radio operator on an M-59 and got to drive it many times. The exhaust manifolds were a great place to heat up your c-rations, hence a story of one of the soldiers in mt company who heated a can of beans on the manifold but neglected to vent the can, he cleaned beans off the interior of the M-59 for almost a week, it was quite a mess and there was one very mad SFC

If you had gotten to the Rock a couple years earlier, you would have been working for my dad. He was the battalion motors officer from 1953-55.

Hello again Robert. Glad you didn't give up on us. Sometimes these computers and websites can be a little daunting.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Been down sick and just hitting the computer a little here and there.
It "should be" [catch phrase] (fairly) easy to change your profile photo [not always the case, right?].
On your personal page here at Dragoon Base, in the column on the right, is a set of links you can click on titled Inbox, Alerts, Friends, and Settings.
Click on the Settings link.
Right at the top on your settings page will be PHOTO. Click on the Browse button. A window will open up and you can search your computer for the photo you want. When you find the photo you want, click on it and then click where it says "open".
Now you should be back at your settings page. Go to the bottom of the page and click where it says SAVE. Your new picture should be on your profile.

Bye the way the map brought back lots of good memories. I viewed my CD of our vacation last year and only had 3 shots of the Patton Museum so I'm contacting my son in law to see if he has any also
Last year I took a trip with some of my kids and grandson and one of our first stops was Chaicaio Summit and the patton Museum. It was early so I didn't get to go inside but the outside was impresive, lots of vehicles around and a large statue of Patton outside. But what impressed me the momost was a wall leading up to the visitor center with bricks engraved with some of the names of soldiers who fought with Patton and some were 2nd ACR soldiers. If you haven't heard of Pattons Ghost Soldiers do some research and you will find out it was the 2nd ACR. Iv'e got some pictures of that trip and our stop i'll see if I can download some for u.
