Amen Bro:
Everyone thinks that it's all about looking good in your uniforms!!! If we showed up in pressed BDU's and spit shined boots we had to low crawl accross the parade field untill we couldn't be seen!!! YOU only show up one time PREPPED!!! ...
It's a serious thing to witness the amount of damage a trooper can incur in a relatively short period of time. The head problems are as bad as any physical disability. I deal with both. Hang in there men.
Tell us a little about your cav days and some of your buddies!

Hi Tommy, do you remember a SFC Michael Aiken ? L Trp. , tank platoon Sgt. 87-89 ? He just joined Dragoon Base. I advised him to join " Amberg, 3rd Sqdn. ". You two have a LOT to talk about ! Toujours Pret
OK....I find it hard to believe but Spc. State, Spc Whitow & myself (Spc Loving) alway had a time with SFC Whitman drinking problem. Until MSG Burris fixed it. 194th Brigade
Hi Tommy, thanks for asking me to join your friends list ! Wow, you were a Command Sergeant Major. I was just a lowly Spec. 5. BUT a trooper is a trooper. During my tour in Germany my brother was in the NAM and he was stationed at Camp Eagle, Phu Bai, RVN. right on the DMZ. Camp Eagle was a base for the 101st Airborne but he was in the 1st Log. Comm. " the leaning s*** house ) . As they were right on the DMZ with North Vietnam , they got hit quite a lot and he was " in country " during the Tet Offensive. After all these years, he still won't talk about it but he has been to the " Wall" 5 times! Anyway, where is Clarkdale? I live in Casa Grande, between Tucson and Phoenix, right on I-10. Maybe we can meet sometime, I go to Tucson 4 or 5 times a week. Thanks Again James Toujours Pret
It was great to hear from you!!!! Where did you go after you left Amberg??? Did you retire from the Army??? Do you know anyone who has photos from the war?? I sent all of mine home to my Dad and the government scensored them!!! CNN can show what they want but someone who was there can't have them. How does that work? Is 2ND ACR still a unit??? I'm going to look into the websight you mentioned. Do you remember the nuckle head 1SGT who replaced Hammond?? He was a joke! I think his name was Hampton. Not the leader YOU or 1SGT Hammond were!!!! Do you rember 1LT Vertreise?(spelling???) He was one of the few 0 Grades that was worth his title!! Great hearing from you!!!!
My name is Mike Wellington, I was stationed in Amberg 1989-1992.
Do you remember me??? I have told everyone about you taking me under your wing. I still don't know why you did that but you made me a better soldier. The unit flag you gave me in the HQ before we went to Southwest Asia lasted untill my ex-wife burnt it during our divorce two years ago. Wish I still had it!!! She had a thing about destroying my military awards, photos and other items when she got pissed off at me. Did you retire from the Army?? Good to hear that you are still working and in good health. Thanks for being a great leader! Drop me a line or two.
Good to hear. I miss the men and the times back then. Things are different now, but those old memories are golden. I still think about my time as a cav trooper and I knew that I was part of something special. A guy I work with has a brother in the army. I saw a picture of him in Iraq and he had on "the patch" After talking with him some more I found out that he is in 4/2 SCR out of Vilsek. Just got back from the desert. Had a chance to meet and talk to him. Told him of the times up on border and being the 3/2 ACR. Small world.
Tommy Nester, how are you doing? Good by the sound of things. Remember me? I left L Troop right when 3rd Squadron was alerted for the Gulf War. I went to jump school and then on to the 82nd. Nice to see people I remember still around.
