Tell us a little about your cav days.
I was a tanker stationed in Amberg. My prior duty station was Ft Polk, where I was in an armor unit on an M60. When I joined 2nd Platoon, I Troop, 3/2 ACR, I was assigned to an M551 Sheridan. I participated in numerous border patrols and was often assigned to reaction force and camp operations. I was at both Camp May or Camp Rotz many times. I was there for the transition from M551's to M60A1RISE, and was assigned to help train both tankers and scouts on the M60. Things I enjoyed: Tank Gunnery at Graf Wiener Schnitzel Pommes Frites and Wietzen Beer Incidents I remember: Being concerned about the Baader-Meinhof Gang Going on alert for the Iran Hostage crises Being on night patrol and stopping at a check point where a radar team was set up overlooking a Czech Kaserne, when someone made a run for the border and was shot and carried back before he made it. The Colonel's driver defecting to Czechoslovakia after raping a German girl, and being returned by the Czechs. Being trained to cross-country ski by a British Army ski team. A big fight at the camp "club" because one of our guts thought it would be funny to disrespect the Queen. Several dismounted patrols where we encountered Czech patrols with East German officers up close and personal. One dismounted patrol where we were charged by several Czech cadets from a hillside bunker....thought we might have to lite them up until the corporal with our two gun jeeps showed up and charged the M60 machine guns. HIND helicopter overflights. An OH58 sitting down in the One-K zone, and Soviet recovery vehicle and friends showing up apparently wanting to take it.
Tell us a little about you now.
I am a retired Correction Sergeant. I retired from the Ohio DRC in 2014. I live in Amherst, OH.
Name a few buddies you served with that you would like to find.
I would like to hear from anyone, but I am terrible with names.

Welcome back to the Cavalry David, I was over at M company during the same time period you were in I troop, my original orders were to go to I troop but they changed them when I got to Amberg. I remember a lot of the same incidents that you had listed. Very interesting times for sure. We already had the M60's so I never had to serve on the Sheridan.
Hi David, I'm down here in Athens, Oh. I was in Atrp. 72-75 trying to keep those Sheridans running. Very interesting times.
Welcome to the Base David. It sounds like you had as much fun as I did. I just wish I could do it over. Made a bad choice. You'll need to check out the "Groups" and find your friends.
