I went back to Bayreuth in 2008 and found the officer's club, but wasn't sure which of the two houses across the street was ours. But at least I have a photo of myself in front of the officer's club from 1954 and 2008.
I was too young for school. Spent my first and second birthdays living across the street from the Officer's Club in Bayreuth on Parsifalstrasse, just down the street from the Wagner Festspielhaus.
My dad died in 1983. He earned his bars with the 99th Recon Troop between the Battle of the Bulge and the crossing of the bridge in Remagen.
So in your archives did he wear a helmet with a big C on it? that would mean he was there during the 2ACR Constabulary period prior to the Berlin incident.
