Planning a trip out West after I retire (4-5 yrs) and will incorporate stops with people I know through this and other sources. Have a couple of 2/2 CAV buddies in the Colorado Springs area also. Visiting Bamberg again definitely on my "bucket list". I too liked riding the trains and had a EURAILPASS when I left Bamberg to use for about a month to get around Europe before I came back to States.

Happy Birthday - drove through your town a few years back on the way home from a vacation in Ruidoso (headed towards Amarillo). I was in E Troop when they had Sheridans and then spent a year in H Co. with the M60A1's and A2's. Enjoyed the Border and Reforger; Hohenfels and Graf had their good days and bad days.I got away from Bamberg every chance I could. Miss it now.

      The Dragoonbase.com, has
      plenty of updated features

      (Officers Club,F-Trp,Amberg,Medics,and the
      always busy Oldtimers club).
Also links for “2nd Cavalry Assn.”
      News and History Centers.

Robb Russell has posted some tips for
      navigating the site(ie,photos,links,ect)
      in the Forum.

Please feel free to stop by and read the
      latest “Tacoma Dave's ‘Triva Quiz’”,
you can learn some 2nd Cav history,
and you could even, win a kool prize.

Tell us a little about your cav days.

280 days of the year field duty. Hof, Hohenfels, and Coburg border patrols. Capstone and Reforger. Graf gunnery twice a year. Several little ventures chaining the tanks to trains and travelling to excersise locations. Denied leave. Worked Christmas. Commander lit off simulators at Coburg during the night one time to make a training alert more realistic, which ended badly. Shirley Temple (Black) visited our Coburg track park. I shook hands with General Powell at Bamberg track park. Saw the A3 get transitioned at Vilseck. Saw the enemy. Saw 2 suicide attempts from buddies. Gang rape in the next room. Lotta bad memories too. Hated my stay there.

Tell us a little about you now.

That place ruined my youth. Not much to tell. Enlisted to see Germany because I was born there as an enlisted man's son and didn't remember Germany at all of course as a baby. So I enlisted to see Germany with that stipulated to my recruiter. I saw Germany allright: from the hatch of my tank. Too much field duty. The 335 Armor across the street had 3 weeks field duty out of the year. FTC. I remember what those 3 letters meant. But hey - good to find this website. Hope I find buddies. I was known as "Holybrook" then. A real young do-gooder who didnt drink beer and tried to push my religion on people. I am not a successful person financially today but very happy, married to the best woman on planet Earth for 18 years now.

Name a few buddies you served with that you would like to find.
