Holy smokes, that's one heck of a memory you've got. One of my biggest regrets is that I never kept a journal while I was serving....recording the names and events as they occurred and not having to rely on an old guy's memory. Now that you queued me, I absolutely remember how frustrated you were being assigned to an armor unit. Remember when Grenada kicked off and they wouldn't let you go?
I might be able to add a few more names.
SSG Wigley was a Tank Commander. I believe he made it into pre-Delta force, but washed out on the 20 mile nighttime forced march.
SP4 Kevin Grant was our radio guy (later committed suicide while stationed at Ft. Carson). He helped me make and hang a sign in Border Ops with a quote from Conan the Barbarian, "The three greatest things in Life: To crush your enemies; To see them driven before you; And to hear the lamentaions of their women"
SP5 Walker was one of my buddies
SP4 Michael Mailman I believe was in your platoon
Sgt. Gary Thompson ran Border OPs from Hof. Really knew his stuff too (I worked Border Ops with him every single time Hawg deployed)
I think the guy you were referring to with respect to SP4 Higgins was PFC Abdelatif (SP).. Everyone just refered to him as "Alphabet".
First Sergeant Morgan! What a hoot! I remember the first time he held formation with us and the first words out of his mouth. We were standing at attention when he told us, "I hate all you sons of bitches!" The second thing I remember about him was when he got in contact with Loretta Lynn and got her to come visit us on Christmas Day in the Mess Hall at Camp Hof. Guess those West Virginia folks are a pretty tight crowd.
Anyway...you're the first guy on this site I've come across that I personally knew...and I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying the old memories. Thanks very much for sharing!
You most certainly made an impression, John, even more so than my own Platoon Leader...I believe his name was Lieutenant Lambert. What I remember most about you was how driven you were - and the standards you forced the rest of us to maintain. You were a great Platoon Leader.
But by far one of my fondest memories was running (0-dark-thirty) PT with you in Company Formation through the REMF housing areas screaming cadence as loud as we could.
Up popped the monkey....
Good Day,
How is everything with you, I picked interest on you after going through your short profile and deemed it necessary to write you immediately. I have something very vital to disclose to you, but I found it difficult to express myself here, since it's a public site.Could you please get back to me on:( officialaishacbdd@gmail.com ) for the full details.
Have a nice day
Thanks God bless
Aisha.
