Tell us a little about you now.

I took the SSB in 1991 and got a discharge in Europe under the condition I didn't take a GS job. Being in Germany I needed an ID card, as you should well imagine for American benefits ie BX, commissary, vehicle plates etc.. I worked NAF for 14 years. Because of the enormous impact the job as CATM left me more and more disabled. Finally I was given a release because of my slow deterioration. A year later- 2008- I found out that NAF was indeed eligible for COLA as long as one worked for 40 hours/week for 5 years. Where I worked at the time- Ramstein Child Development Center Germany, the time clock almost always was broken. I worked there for 10 years and was a NAF 4 years prior. I was not able to recoup the COLA because of the time clock issue. I found out about the entitlement purely by accident. We were never formally informed. I wonder how much money did the government save by not back paying the NAF employees. In my disability claim so far I have been awarded 10% which I can not claim until 2035, because I have to repay SSB. My husband is German and his company went bankrupt- the recession hit Europe first- at the same time I was let go of my job. We went on the internet and found hubby a job in Canada. There was a VA rep in Germany who I paid and he has a copy of my medical! Come to find out- he was a fraud! So now, I did not get 14 years of COLA and have to pay back SSB! One of my claim was tinnitus- which was denied because not service related! I definitely need help in my VA appeal! I am having a "good"day- normally I can not type this much.
