Tell us a little about your cav days.
Of my 22 years of military service, my 2nd ACR days were the best. A lot of great memories and great people. Way too many stories to talk about and place here. Absolutely, the best soldiers and friends I've ever served with. I wish I could say that about my present employment now. Great times at Melodies, Sandros Pizzeria, and in Sulzbach, too.
Tell us a little about you now.
Retired from conservation work with PA Fish and Boat Commission. Wife and I do a lot of traveling and enjoy going back to Germany every now and then. Keeping busy at work and enjoying life. I've been back to Amberg twice since 1986, Pond Barracks sure has changed. It is now community housing but its easy to remember where everything was at. Downtown Amberg still is fun and the wife and I enjoy walking the streets when we get back there. J. Story stills lives there with his wife, Inge, and their two children.
Name a few buddies you served with that you would like to find.
Jim Story, Paul Cheney, Sebert Wilson, Ed Gordon, 1Lt. Ron Harper, Scott Lacrosse, Don Ferguson, "Beard", Jimenez, Munzer, Cpl. McCormack-"Mack".

David, looks like you are sporting a new Cavalry hat in your profile picture, looking good Trooper !!
Hello David,
I purchased my hat online from Miller hats out of Houston Texas ,http://www.millerhatstore.com/store/cavalry_hats The hat is made by Resistol, they have quite a selection to choose from just in their Cavalry hat category. I did a lot of research before I bought from them, I looked all over the place. I would have purchased a Stetson from the place the association recommends they support our troopers, but I wanted a 4" brim with the cattle mans crown and Miller hats had the most selections on their web site, just take a good measurement of your head with a tailors measuring tape I was very happy with their service. You can find custom hat makers out there but you will pay much more for those hats and have to wait longer for them. My Resistol is a good quality hat for the price I paid for it, they also have the hat cords and sabers and chin strap and they will sell you a carrying case and hat care products if you like. good luck and have fun picking one out. David, check out www.secondcavalry.com.go to sutler's store for your stetson.it's "our" association and sales benefit the regiment.check out my pics of my stetson, the crossed sabers and chinstrap are included.if I remember correctly they are shipped from pa.
The old pics are great! I think there are others but I haven't checked them out yet. I haven't been to a 2nd Cav reunion yet but Gettysburg might be a good one to go to. I've never been to Gettysburg but I would really like to see the battlfield. I haven't come across many from the old 2nd Cav days in person but I have seen Sebert Wilson and Frank Decker (LT). Frank comes to Orlando from time to time and we get together and share old stories. I've seen him in Kansas as well (he lives near Ft. Leavenworth).
Just saw the picture you posted of me. I've never seen it before but it really brings back memories!
Florida is good! I just changed jobs so I'm in information overload mode. Hope all is well with you.
Florida is hot! Sounds like a lot of the old Amberg crowd still live in Germany. I've been wanting to go back for a visit, especially since our youngest son was born in Nuremburg while we were stationed in Amberg. We will probably wait until his son is old enough to remember the trip and go back and visit with his family in a few years. His wife was born in Germany about the same time and they both want to go back and see where they were born.
Take care,
Ron
