Do you remember how the Army was back then? Most soldiers were drafted, came from all walks of life, gay and straight. But, I don't remember that sexual orientation was important, and to my knowledge, it wasn't important that knowledge of someone's orientation was necessary. Why do you think that it is so important nowadays? Why do you think it is so important for a gay person to serve openly? This future policy change is confusing to me, and I think not so good for the military as a whole. Your thoughts?

DR. Steve, did you retire yet? Since I retired, I find myself wishing I still had a job.

Steve, I was in K troop 66-69. I think I remember you, you were our orderly room clerk right? Here are some names that I remember; Mike Allen (SSG), Dennis Grignon, Larry Parker, Big John, 1SG Folger, 1SG Allen. I was LT Holder's driver in 67-68. After that I went to the K troop motorpool and became the turret mechanic. I also worked in the arms room as additional duty for a while. Lt Holder went on to command the regiment during the Gulf war, after that, he eventually commanded the 3d Infantry Division and retired a 3 star, what a great guy. I met him after I retired sometime in the early 90's. I just found this site and it is great to see all the stuff written about amberg. It sure brings back a lot of memories. Take care. Jimmie Henry

Hi Steve, glad you are going to join the " Old Timers" group. You and I are the only two who served in '68 and '69 so far. Yes, I do remember Lt. Holder! On the 2nd Cavalry Assoc. website there is someone named Holder. Could it be he??? In the " Amberg" site there is a discussion going on about Mohl Kaserne. Was it Wermacht of Waffen SS in WW II? I don't remember.

Hi Dr. Steve, sorry but I don't remember you either. You know how it was, Troop clerks came to us, not the other way around. Glad that ONE of made it big, Herr Doctor. Was Griffith a thin redhead with glasses? Here is the roster as I recall: Olin Wenrick, John Taylor, Roy Pirrung, Dave Cowden, " redhead- " Terry ( Rhode Island), myself, Jack Tarvin, Jacinto ( Pancho ) Saucedo, and Benny Halliburton. I lived off post and did not live in the Troop Bldg.. It's been 40 years. Anyway, greetings. Have you joined the " Old Timers" group ? Lots of us old farts around but most not as old! Toujours Pret.
