And by the way, yes, he had a really nice stereo system. I remember, Bose 901's.

Hi, James. Mike Bishop here, I was in Special Weapons from 84 to 86. I'm assuming you're speaking about the same Eddie Whitfield (also in Special Weapons) as me.
A real nice guy, I think he was from South Carolina, married a 16 year old German girl, had a kid right away, his inlaws were both doctors and he lived off base just across the street from Pond Barracks in a nice, new apartment complex. He was a pretty good friend of mine. The night before one of our inspections, Sgt. Dopp and Eddie drove to Graf to either deliver or drop off some SW documents. On the way back, Sgt. Dopp missed a turn in the car he was driving, killing Eddie and seriously injuring Sgt. Dopp. I was at his memorial as an Honor Guard. A real shame, a good friend.

Yes, I remember now, I spent some time drinking in Whitfields room, when I first got there he had one of the best stereo systems at the time. Sgt. Orefield was my crew chief........man how easy is it for memories to flood back once you remember a name. Thanks for having a better memory, I think I had one or two too many while I was stationed in Amberg.

Hi James, I remember a Sgt. Orefield,he was shorter and from the south,Sgt. Whitfield was Acting Jack shortly after I arrived and then got his hard stripes. Whitfield was also from the south, he was around 5'9"- 5' 10".He was raised on a tobacco farm I believe.

Hi James, when did you leave amberg? I got there right after christmas '82. There are a few bunnies on the site from your time. Welcome.

      Toujours Pret James,
Welcome to the DragoonBase, the new Base has plenty of updated features, lots of sub-groups,(ie, Officers Club, F-Trp., Amberg, Medics, etc.) and links for 2nd Cav News and History.
Robb Russell has posted some tips for navigating the site (ie,photos, links, ect) in the Forum.
Make sure you stop by and read the latest Tacoma Dave ‘Triva Quiz’, learn some 2nd Cav history, and you can even win a kool prize.
If you need any help, you can contact Robb, or any of the 5 admins listed at the top of the page, or just yell out, another member may be able to help you.
And our only wish, ‘Keep it clean’, use our Real names/with Pictures (pix from back in the day, work best for searching for Brothers, but any picture will do).
And that you please tell all your friends about DragoonBase.

Thanks again for joining Dragoon Base, and for your service to our great country.

Tell us a little about your cav days.

Seems I spent most of my time in the field or on the border. I actually have forgotten full names. As you know most everyone is called by their last names and other than a few guys in my barracks room, I have a hard time recalling there names.

Tell us a little about you now.

Lived in Colorado from Nebraska for the last 20 years. Manager for a larger concrete and materials manufacturing company. One son in the Marine Corp. another is a chef.

Name a few buddies you served with that you would like to find.

    Alton James-
