To your health and longevity, brother!!!
I hear you loud and clear. I'm hangin' in there waiting for my next birthday. Got to the point where I celebrate the end of the Korean War instead.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, OLD FRIEND!
Hey Jerry,
Did you ever get in touch with Dennis "Fatty" Fullerton after he got out? I left Bindlach in July 1976 and wondered whatever happened to him. He was the Gunner/acting TC for LT Mitchell.
Still have a photo of you, Fatty, Klobucar & Sam Grennan hanging out on the front of our Sheridan.
I remember one night at Graf when you were driving a bunch of us 'Croots from one of the ranges where we'd been on a detail back to Camp Albertshof where we were staying & you took a wrong turn. An hour-long Deuce and a half ride wound us being like 2-3 hours. And we had that stupid Foosball table in the back of the truck that kept sliding around smacking us whenever we tried to sleep. All the while dust poring into the back of the truck, even though it was night. That's Graf for you!
Cheers,
Doug Nash
Great to hear from you! I heard from Scott about the same time. Man did that bring back the memories... I hope that you're doing well. I'm working in Canada these days. Be sure and say hello to Scott for me when you see him.
Tom Molino sent me the official photos from the investigation. The coordinates were on the folder, along with the date and time. It was two days before my 21st birthday.
Guess I haven't forgotten my map reading skills, because I looked up the coordinates on a big map of the border one of our helicopter pilots gave me recently. The current Regimental Historian had 2SCR's (2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment) map gurus confirm the coordinates for me, and we went looking for the place.
I've got a bunch of pic's of the aftermath of the explosion on my profile page. I was only about 40 feet from the tank when it blew up and got thrown over a small fence.
My pleasure, and yes, lots of trouble in that photo for sure!
I just got back from Germany July 29. Spent a couple weeks over there welcoming the 2d Cav back from Afghanistan and attending all their ceremonies. They are home based in Vilseck now.
It was also the 37th anniversary of the C15 explosion. I found the place (Inzendorf) and visited it. Talked to a gal who was a little girl when it happened. Her family's barn roof took a hit from flying debris!
