Tell us a little about your cav days.
Amberg and 2nd Armored Cavalry was my first assignment after Ft Knox, KY. My wife Kathy accompanied me. Arrived just before Christmas, 1969 and was shipped immediately to Chech Border Patrol. Cpt. Bill Deeley's platoon. He short-sheeted my bed the first night. Came back to barracks for 24 hours on Christmas Day. Kathy has a real tree put up, bought Rosenthal ornaments (real burning candles) and a bottle of Dewers for PX. It's about all we could afford. May have been the saddest Christmas ever....certainly NOT what we were used to. But got better after that! Fashing (sp?) and Octoberfest were fantastic. Still have clay mugs from all the breweries in Amberg in the basement!! Still great friends with Rosemarie and Nelson Banks. Remember bartender Deter from Officer's Club and Col. Reeds' mandatory Officer's Mess. Oh, and Major Blake's witty (not) snide side comments. Think of the other guys we hung with there: Gibbons, Smiths, Bentons, McCrae, Nigren, Picard, Banks, LaLone, Deeleys---quite a bunch, huh?? EMs and Officers alike all got along great. Lavoie and Blaszkiewicz (sp?) too. Tom just reached out to us this week. Glad he did. Never had to go to Graf Tank Training because I was shipped off to Intelligence Training and Vietnam at the end of 1970. Bought my first car in Amberg...a Fiat, ugly green color. Then Lt.Nigren bought one from the same dealer and sent me 100 DM. Thought I won the lottery!!
Tell us a little about you now.
Kathy and I will have our 43rd anniversary this year. We have 2 daughters and 2 grand kids. Our youngest daughter, Maggie , is getting married in September. I am still working in NYC, in same career I entered after Army....Advertising. You can find me on Facebook, Linked In and Twitter (#adguynyc)

Hope you have a Happy Birthday and are doing well.
Michael, not sure if you would remember me or not. I was one of the mechanics (co-driver) on the M-88 in K-troop with you. Later on I took Sgt Schneider's place as acting Motor Pool Sgt. I was also the one who bought Cpt. William Deeley's 66 light blue mustang when he left and painted it dark blue.
So my posture is a little sloppy. But I also just put down 2 beers, 1/2-lb of crabs, and a load of fries. It was all gone by the time we got home.
Welcome aboard Michael. It's been a long time since we served together in Amberg. I remember when you left for Vietnam, sorry to see you leave. I ended up staying in Amberg until 1972. Glad you are here and be sure to check out some of the groups and pictures. You will have to guess which one is me.
Mike,
Just got back from camping White Mountains, NH. From left to right - me, James and Daniel - two of my six boys. I always make the joke - 63 still having kids and don't know what's causing it! These two keep me young.
We do lots of biking and Franconia Notch offered a bit of a challenge.
Still the hansom guy! I remember you as the kindest officer at Pond Barracks. That's why I requested a picture way back when. Happy that you are on board.
I am leaving for camping for two weeks but check out my page when you get a chance and write soon.
