  Hey George, here's a possible 2d Dragoon ancestor for you to look for at Fiddler's Green. He even started out in K Troop like you did!

  SMITH, George W.; enlisted: November 7, 1836, Newport, by Lieut. Hamilton; [no personal info listed]; Company K, 2d Dragoons; deserted: November 17, 1836; apprehended: November 18, 1836; deserted: April 14, 1837.

  SMITH, George, W.; 2^nd enlistment: July 15, 1839, New York, by Lieut. Hardia; born: Boston, Massachusetts; age: 29 yrs; occupation: soldier; blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, 5’8½”; Companies H and F, 2d Dragoons; discharged: May 21, 1844, Fort Jesup, Louisiana, for re-enlistment; rank: 1^st sergeant.

  SMITH, George W.; 3^rd enlistment: May 21, 1844, Fort Jesup, by Lieut. Sibley; born: Boston, Massachusetts; age: 34 yrs; occupation: soldier; blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, 5’8”; Company F, 2d Dragoons; died April 25, 1846, three miles above Arosia, Texas, killed in an engagement with the Mexicans; rank: 1^st sergeant.

  Forever Young, Lt. Smith.

  The pics really gave me a sense of time-less-ness, if that is at all possible.

  LTC Reed, and Maj Blake all scrubbed up and looking young! The young officers, Cpt. Manuel Mason [I trp].

  Thank you for the shout-back and the gift of that pic, hard to navigate, YEAH, but is is DYN-O-MITE. I couldn't find a better pic of my service in the Army than that.

  George W Smith, When you are a a leader, you sort of attract a lot of comentary;

  it is not suprising that none of it is negative. Although I never served under you directly, I

  always observed you as helpful, polite and well mannered. Much fun was had in the O-Club

  Bar, with Dieter Gleichof the Bartender, Robert, the manager and me, assistant to all the above;

  I had the BEST Job.

  Serving Col Reed and Major Blake and Cpt. Mohr good Martini's up on the border was both challenging and fun. Too bad Mom didn't go to the Border with us.
