      Forever Young, Lt. Smith.

      The pics really gave me a sense of time-less-ness, if that is at all possible.

      LTC Reed, and Maj Blake all scrubbed up and looking young! The young officers, Cpt. Manuel Mason [I trp].

      Thank you for the shout-back and the gift of that pic, hard to navigate, YEAH, but is is DYN-O-MITE. I couldn't find a better pic of my service in the Army than that.

      Toujours Pret, Brother

      George W Smith, When you are a a leader, you sort of attract a lot of comentary;

      it is not suprising that none of it is negative. Although I never served under you directly, I

      always observed you as helpful, polite and well mannered. Much fun was had in the O-Club

      Bar, with Dieter Gleichof the Bartender, Robert, the manager and me, assistant to all the above;

      I had the BEST Job.

      Serving Col Reed and Major Blake and Cpt. Mohr good Martini's up on the border was both challenging and fun. Too bad Mom didn't go to the Border with us.

      Tojours Pret, Brother

      I hope you and the surviving fellow Officers are Well.

      Thanks for your Service.

    Tell us a little about your cav days.

    The border, what a time that was. Had the honor(?) of being one of the first to take a tank company to the border. Can you imagine 17 tanks at Camp May? Between the border, Hoenfels and Graf we managed to be away from home 6 months a year.

    Tell us a little about you now.

    Notable events after leaving Amberg - 5 years of civilian life, then signed up with the CA Army National Guard; Div Cav Troop Commander, full-time technician, S-3 tank battalion, and S-3 mechinized brigade. Back to active duty for the ARNG; worked for the Army Research Institute, 4th Army, and Operational Test and Evaluation Command. Retired in Sep 1995. In 1983 I went back to active duty working for the ARNG; served on the Army Science Board in Washington, DC, Senior advisor to the Army Research institue in Boise, ID, Mobilization Officer at 4th US Army at Fort Sheridan, IL, and finally worked for the US Army Test and Evaluation Command, in Washington, DC. Retired from ARNG Title 10 (active duty) as LTC in 1995. Did a stint with Booz-Allen & Hamilton after retirement, and eventually moved back to the West Coast. Retired again from IT department of a regional BlueCross/BlueShield company in 2008.
