A late thanks for your BD wishes. I think Edward Voke, COL USA Retired has since given a detailed account our time on the border, e.g. a PS guard in the Gates sector, with his AK47. 1/Lt David Armstrong responded I was his "Deputy"......shortly there after a Russian General, at least his uniform indicated so and a an obstacle was set very similar to what we have in San Diego at San Ysidro. JT Tuberty retired as a BG, our Regt. Co Frank B. Clay retired as a MG, he offered me the Assistant S-1 position after I saved an E1 (who had been at least an E-6) from being kicked out of the Army after 19 years of active duty. Merrill Barracks was refered to as the "Stairway to the Stars" I do enjoy relative good health, with the exception of compression of the 3/4 cerv. vert. note my abrev. Take Care TP and Gerry Owen to all who have worn the uniform of the USA. Former CPT, Armor, USAR Dick Rees

      Dick,

Welcome to Dragoon Base, sir. I'd be very interested in hearing more about Cpt. Vokes' account of border duty during your period. The Cold War era border period was the longest mission of the 2d Cavalry, and is the largest hole in our 2d Cavalry Association's history website.

This year is the Regiment's 175th birthday, and there are a lot of holes to fill in it's history. Any of them you could plug would be greatly appreciated.

Tell us a little about your cav days.

Served with a buddy that made MG, Richard B. Griffiths, Ronald Zeltman, our S-3 made BG. and Sqd. CO, James T. Tuberty made BG. Our S-2, CPT Vokes has written very accurate account of duty in the 3/2ACR during that period of border duty in our sector. The biggest excitement we had was when some young Czechs crashed the bored at Weiden and the PS guards let loose with their AK47s, I was no.2 at Camp Gates and thus was not the one to investigate the "big" incident. Left the service in 67 a CPT, a Basic Training CO at Ft. Polk.

Tell us a little about you now.

I am retired, had my own business which involved securing our fellow citizens 8th Amendment Rights e.g. I was in tlhe Bail Bond Business for 23 years.
