DICK, Sorry that I had not returned your mail you had sent to me.  I have been busy going to the VA hospital, making all of these 100 mile round trips has been a burden on us, the wife has to do all of the driving, since I had my spinal core accident, I am dependent on all of my family, I am stuck in a wheel chair.

What I was wanting to know, do you have a copy of 'I' Troops unit roster.  I have been looking for a copy of one.

I lost your new number that you sent to me after you were having problems with your communications.  I am hoping that this reaches you ok.  my email is wedtx@aol.com.

I bet San Diego has really changed since I went to school out at the naval base back in the 60's.  Had a good time there.   Wayne Dixon.

SCHROETER, Charles; private, Company G, 8th Cavalry; Chihuahua Mountains, Arizona, 20 October 1869; awarded 14 February 1870, gallantry in action.

SCHROETER, Charles; enlisted: August 9, 1866, St. Louis, Missouri, by Capt. Bates; born: Luneburg, Hanover; age: 29 yrs; occupation: clerk; hazel eyes, black hair, fair complexion, 5'6"; Company G, 8th Cavalry; discharged: August 9, 1871, Fort Selden, New Mexico, expiration of service; rank: private.

SCHROETER, Charles; 2nd enlistment: October 7, 1871, St. Louis, Missouri, by Capt. Brown; born: Hanover, Germany; age: 34 yrs; occupation: soldier; hazel eyes, black hair, fair complexion, 5'6 1/4"; Company [illegible], 1st Infantry; discharged: October 7, 1876, Fort Sully, Dakota Territory, expiration of service; rank: sergeant; character: excellent.

The guy on the left in the photo, with the black feather in his Stetson and one side pinned up with the gold badge, is the "other" 2d Cavalry, Jeff Davis' own, established in 1855. The feather and pinned hat are both trademarks of Jeff Davis' regiment. They later became the 5th Cavalry shortly after the Civil War started. We became the 2d Cavalry at the same time, August 1861. Can't say what regiment the other guy is representing.

DICK, Your comment #1 Did you mean 64 or 66 for arrival at I Trp.?, I departed in June 64.

Hello Dick, did you receive the e-mail sent to you, I was inquiring if you might have an old copy of the company roster from I Troop.  I am like everyone else, did not think of adding one to my files.  I was out in San Diego going to school back in 1960 at Coronado Beach, with the Navy.  They were teaching me how to load all the vehicles and equipment of the 2nd Armored Division, we were a STRAC unit, plus they sent me to Little Creek Virginia for Amphibious Training, guess the only group I never received training from is the Marines.  I worked as a classified courier as a escort for a couple of trips from Barksdale AFB.  I had a crew with armed personnel, we guarded a couple of 16 wheelers across the states.  Every time we stopped, we had to have guards around the vehicles.  Dick if you should remember all the other officers in I Troop that was there, would you please send me their name and approximately when they were and their units assignment.

Appreciate it I have a couple of letters in the mail seeking their function in I troop, I am trying to put chain of commands together for the periods that I served there.  My first Troop commander made 4 star, ROBERT L. SCHWITZER, I was with him 59.

I hope you are no where near the fire, I see it was arson that caused part of it. People are becoming crazy here lately.

Dick, 9 in San Diego county and 2 in Riverside county for a total of 11 and the people who were on duty in our Black Mountain Lookout tower could see the smoke from S D.

Good morning Dick. The clipping arrived today. Will see what I can do but I see problems. It is rather large and not too clear. I am scanning it in 2 sections and will have to try to piece it together. Would try translating but I'm sure you want it before the year 3000.
