What unit(s) did you serve in with the 2d Cavalry?
B troop 1/2 ACR 1971 -1973
Where were you stationed?
Bayreuth / Bindlach at "The Rock"
What MOS or job description did you have?
Arrived in Germany as an 11B / 11C, quickly switched over to 11Dm now called 19D, arrived in Germany just prior to Hohenfels training, never seen that much snow before, even being from New York State. Returned to the rock was quickly sent to Graffenwohr for explosives and demolitions training, guess someone in Nuremberg thought it would be a good idea to blow up some bridges and shit if the balloon went up. Remained in scout section at B troop 1st platoon, but in reality was assigned to Hqtrs along with a lieutenant Jesse Atkins II, we were the squadrons demo team.
What was your rank/title?
E-5
What years were you assigned to the 2nd Cavalry?
1971 / 1973
Tell us a little about your cav days.
It was alright, I did not like the fact that somehow people in command felt I was lifer material and kept me either at the border ( camp Gates) running Ops, or at OP 42 near Marktredwitz, or quite often on a foot patrol on border. So between being at border 4 times per year, graf for tank gunnery, Hohenfels and or wildflicken for more training...what else was there...Oh well there was "El manana Club" downtown and the NCO club at the Rock...NOT a lot going on with life, all Army!!
Tell us a little about you now.
Came home, went to college, got married, got divorced. Re-married, I have grown kids and grandkids. I own my own company, we do commercial refrigeration and air conditioning. Now living just outside of Houston, Texas. I like to hunt, fish, BBQ, drink beer once in a while, I am into Mercedes Benz and BMWs, own a few now. Life is ok, not perfect just ok. Could it be much better? Sure, I am just ok even happy at times with where I am at...God has been good to me. Nice home, swimming pool and shit..life is good I guess.

I went to the NCO Academy at Bad Tolz.
I was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard ( 45th. Division ) joined in High School just for something to do in a small boring little town. After High School they sent six of us to Ft. Hood, Texas for Basic and AIT training ( 2nd. Armored Division). After coming back home and making two summer camps with them I got the itch to travel and join the regular army.
They sent me to Germany ( 2nd. AC ) spent three years in B-troop ( re-enlisted ) and returned to Ft. Hood as a D.I. in the 1st. Armored Division. A job I was not suited for, on to Ft.Sill shooting mortars for OCS School.
The Army and I had grew tired of each other and I could hear my Cherokee girlfriend and the Cookson Hills of Eastern Oklahoma calling. So in Feb.1968 the Army and I call it quits.
Welcome Roger, Same Troop, same platoon and the same section just a few years before you. Was in all the sections in the platoon with the exception of the tanks. B-Troop , 1st. platoon ( 62-65 )
Welcome to Dragoon Base, Roger.
Bill Barry is a member here too, but haven't heard from him in awhile. He went on to be 1st Squadron commander 1986-88.
Jesse Atkins III is also a member, but haven't heard from him in several years. There might be more from your watch list also. Make yourself at home. If you have any questions, give me a holler. I'll be at the Dragoon Saloon in the Oldtimers group.
