Roger, you are so right, I was beginning to think I was the only one to remember it, I wish I had the Army Times paper it was in. :)

Hay Roger,Welcome back to the Rock. I was there with D Trp From 61 to 64, you may remember a "small" incident with some parts being dumped in a local quarry I was involved in that and was busted! :)

Tell us a little about your cav days.

We all hated having to abandon the post in 30 minutes in the middle of the night every month. My buddies and I hung out at the Schoberth Gasthaus in Bindlach, where the beer was fresher and cheaper than in the GI joints in Bayreuth. The Schoberth was quieter, too. Sometimes, we'd go to Yetta's place on the tank path down the mountain. I remember when the M114's were issued - the junior officers had a blast trying them out. On the ship home for discharge, my buddy - Clifford Dawson from Savannah who handled payroll, was seasick most of the way home. A Sgt told him to get out of bed and leave the area one morning before inspection. Clifford told the E-5 that he was liable to being puked on at any moment; whereupon said Sgt beat feet outta there!

Tell us a little about you now.

I'm 73 and retired. I last worked on horseback (make that motorcycle back), escorting funeral processions in Columbus - the big one - in Ohio. That ended in 2013 after 12 1/2 years. I still ride my steed - Honda VTX1300 and fly my tiny airplane. Got a couple gyrocopters, too. Closest thing to air cav I can get.

Name a few buddies you served with that you would like to find.

William Gillard, Jr., Andy Young, Gustav Gaspar, and Clifford Dawson, Jr.
