Wayne: I don't know if you remember me or not. I was in the scout section of 3rd platoon, before I was transfered to the ROC in Nuremberg. While I have no grandkids, I'm Chief of Security for a youth hostel here in Las Vegas, so at any given time I have a half a dozen back packers from all over the world needing advice or guidance. Makes life interesting and keeps me young. SSG C.R. (Bob) Lane

Oh By the way Mr.Watters I never said that Trough wasn't a Good Soldier, I just said he was an ***hole. I have no doubt under different circumstances, that we would have gotten along better, If it wasn't for the fact, that I made E-6 Under four years, with no combat duty. Also the fact that he was frustrated, that I received my promotion through a field grade promotion by a two Star General.

Evidently Wayne, You were not aware of the personal confrontations that Terry and I experienced. If you inlination was to say that I was a below Average, then we need to talk some more. After my Transfer to F Troop Terry called Smitty and bet $20.00 that I had left my place of duty. He sent SSG Strickland up to the motor pool, where I was helping the driver and rest of the crew, change out the motor. When Strick came up there, he asked me what I was doing, and I said, "I'm helping to change the Pack, on this vehicle. He then informed me that Smitty wants to see you at the orderly room.

When I got there the clerk filled me in on what was going on. I reported to Smitty, and he got on the phone with Trobough, and told him he had lost the bet. When my car left the parking lot, it was my wife who was driving, but Trobough couldn't see that.

As for me being the best Recon SSG in the Squadron, those words came from Ltc. Getgood. I was the only Senior NCO in the Squadron with a Top Secret Nato Clearance. Trobough, seemed to resent me, because I had been promoted by a 2 Star General at Ft. Carson, my last duty assignment before reporting for PCS to the 2nd Cav. I'm sure that you are not aware of all of the particular Pi**ing contest, that I had going on with Trobough. However I never received an EER less than 123, Which had to go through him in order for it to be put in my 201 file.

I will not discuss this subject again, in this forum, however you can contact me at, eaglfether@aol.com

Wayne, Do tou buy chance remember SSG Williams 1st Platoon? Just before Christmas in 1977, I was Transferred to F Troop. The acting 1stsgt was SFC Smith. After my leave over the Holidays I reported to Hof, for what was my last tour on the Border. Three days befor our tour at Hof was up, My neck was broken, during our winter PT test, January 28, 1978. I was supposed to be sent to Nuremburg for xrays, however the machine they had to use was 86'ed and it was the middle of February, before they were able to do the xrays. Through a picture through my mouth they discoverd that my C-2 vertabrae was fractured in a triangle.

I also remember SSG Strickland, he was a tall man in charge of F Troops Commo. By the Way Trobough went on to become The Regimental CSM. The Squadron CO was Ltc. Getgood. Do you remember SSG Fishback? I am trying to find him to verify that when that Buck Sgt jumped on me while I was sitting on the Gym Floor at Hof.

      Sincerely,
      SSG willie.

Tell us a little about your cav days.

I remember most the time on the border at Coburg and Hof and of seeing a LOT of Germany from the cupola of a M60A1 and a M551A2. I have forgotten most of the fellow troopers names. I remember 1SG/CSM Terry Trobough and SFC Gary Strickland.

Tell us a little about you now.

I retired in 1988. My last duty assignment was at the National Training Center, Ft Irwin, CA. I was an Observer/Controller (12B) Cobra Team. I am currently just a happy easy going Grand Father of two beautiful girls/
