My mom was german from Augsburg I have family ther (ant, uncle and cuisines) hope to go visit some day and I will come see the rock (home town as a Kidd) again!
I know the spot well where you took the snow pictures it's right outside the front gate used to go there and climb the cliffs when I was a Kidd brings back great memories
Thanks for clearing that up, Paul. I can always depend on you, my brother.
Andrei, I think Dave Gettman may be right your dad may have been part of the advance party for the 2nd Cav in 57. Some of them bunked in the Hq. bui9olding on the 3rd floor with Svc. Co. Apparently the place you live was part of the shop that was run by Peter Hillenbrand who was a friend of mine. I was Hq. Co supply clerk and I dealt with him on the laundry pick up and delivery all the time. I don't remember any large hall where they sorted the laundry, I thought he took it into Bayreuth somewhere. Do you know when the hall was built. Maybe it was part of the DP camp ? Also there was a taxi stand next to Pete's building, called Fritz'z taxi, he might have owned that also , he was a good business man.
Andrei, Your Dad and Uncle were in How Battery 1st Sqd 2nd Armd Cav, we arrived in Feb 58, via the USS Buckner.
I have a picture of your Dad when he was on our company basketball team, as a matter of fact the BB coach is still around and lives in Vegas, a good friend of mine. I will attempt to send you that pic soonest, hope to hear from you tomorrow, I have a son who lives in Bad Berneck, I used to visit often, havent been back in 5-6 years.
Paul

I was allso ther with my dad from 1962 to 1969 I have found a few guys that served with him there I loved the rock it was my home town as a Kidd hope to go back some day thanks for sharing the pictures
Andrei,
Headquarters Company would have been your dad's company. This was the same company my dad and Tom Costine were in, only my dad was there a few years earlier.
Each Squadron and the Regiment had a Headquarters Company. Bindlach was 1st Squadron.
From 1952 until August 1955, the 2d Cavalry was on the Rock. 3d Cavalry came over in August 1955 from Ft Meade and the two Regiments switched places during Operation Gyroscope, 2d Cavalry going to Ft Meade, Maryland. February 1958 the two Regiments switched places again, 2d Cavalry returning to the Rock and 3d Cavalry returning to Ft Meade.
So, my dad was 2d Cavalry on the Rock 1953-55.
Tom Costine was 3d Cavalry on the Rock 1955-58.
Paul Gargis was 2d Cavalry on the Rock 1957-62 and knew your dad and his cousin. Since he took basic training with both of them, likely at Ft Meade with the 2d Cavalry, and since both your dad and Paul were there on the Rock in 1957 when the 3d Cavalry was still there, I'm assuming that they were part of the advance party the 2d Cavalry would have sent prior to the entire unit transfer in February 1958.
Andrie, I was at the Rock through 1957 in Hq Co 1st battalion 3rd Cav. What Copmpany7 was your father in? The Lofton name is familar but I don't kinow if it is from that time or later. Is your father still alive? I am 75 now I was 18 throught 21 at the Rock. I really appreciate your pictures.
Tom Costine
Andrei,
I have 2d Cavalry yearbooks for just before (1955) and just after (1961) your dad's time on the Rock, but nothing for the period he was there.
My dad was there from 1953 until 1955. I spent my 1st birthday in Bayreuth when we lived across the street from the officers club on Parsifalstrasse, pictured below in 1954 and 2008. Spent my 21st birthday in Weiden at Camp Pitman, and my last (58th) birthday in Vilseck at Rose Barracks, all with the 2d Cavalry.
