Did you know a person  (nick Name) of Geno?

    • Richard Lucero August 14, 2013 21:37

Hi Sgt. Penley! I remember you well because you were always a stand up guy and an excellent soldier. You were there for me when I had a psychotic break which rendered me schizophrenic (drug induced) and landed me a stretch at the volunteer fire station on the base! LOL. I became hyper religious after that and that lasted at least 5 years until I overcame the handicap and got on with my life. I am now a psychiatric RN and work with the very people that I once was. I'm good at my job (we know why). Good to know you're around. I remember you had the most gorgeous wife and you were crazy about her. How are things with you? Fill me in.

Forgot to mention that the .45 cal. M-1911 semi-automatic pistol was developed as a result of the battles in the Philippines. The standard issue .38 just wouldn't stop the Moros when they got hopped up on whatever they were taking.

      Gary,

Noticed you are on Mindanao. 2d Cavalry has quite a history there at the turn of the 20th century. Here is a small excerpt from our 2d Cavalry Association's 2d Dragoon history website:

During the year 1910, the lawless elements of the hill tribes of Moros in the Davao District of the island of Mindanao collected in bands and attacked plantations on the east coast. Bases were established at different places in the interior and from these points the whole area was thoroughly policed. Among the troops called out to quell this trouble was Troop B, Second Cavalry. The troop, under Captain Clyde B. Hawkins, was brought by boat from its station on Jolo Island to Camp Makar, Mindanao. It remained here about seven weeks, patrolling the country for the rebellious tribesmen, then returned to Augur Barracks February 10, 1911.

Was the EM Club and then the NCO/Officers Club MGR's from Jan 85 to Apr 88.  Remember 1SG Olivares but don't know hat happened to him.  Don't remember GRAFT or TOLSON.  Do remember CPT CRUPPER.

CMS Paul Curran died in the late 80's or possibly very early 90's.  Not sure what happened to Arno Gehart after he died or retired.  1SG Jack Miller took over his position.  Last saw GEN Crouch when he was CINCUSAREUR and flew into Bindlach/Bayreuth for Ali Brieger's funeral in the 95/96 time frame.
