      Jerry,
I was at the Rock from July 1962 thru july 1964.
I remember Lt. Warner. He was in the How. Battery. D Troop and How battery shared the same bldg. I wonder if he is still in prison over there. We had a guy kill a German after that. It occured in the little town of Depps which I remember being at tha rear of the Rock.
I also remember we stopped paying for German civilians to do KP, and started doing KP ourselves. Were you all pulling KP ?

Ok, I will back out for now. Drop me a line when you can.

Did John Landry become 3rd squadron commander? if he did
I served under him in about 1977 or 78

I served under LTC John R. Landry, when was the Squadron Commander, 3/2 ACR in Amberg. What a tough nut he was !

I never knew why good we had it in those days until years later as a SFC and had my own platoon and new then no other unit ran like the one he ran for us.

Glad to see you join and great to have you with us.

      Toujours Pret Jerry,
Welcome to the new DragoonBase, the site has plenty of newer features, lots of sub-groups,(ie,F-Trp,Amberg,Medics,etc.) and links for 2nd Cav News and History.
Robb Russell has posted some tips for navigating the site(ie,photos, ect) in the Forum.
If you need any help, you can contact Robb, or myself, or just yell out another member may be able to help.
And his only wish that ‘We keep it clean’, use our real names/with pictures, and you tell all your friends about the new DragoonBase.

      Thanks Again for joining,
      Jesse Kelley

What years were you assigned to the 2nd Cavalry?

    July 1964 thru June 1967

Tell us a little about your cav days.

Came to Bindlach just after 1LT Gerald Warner killed and butchered his girl friend in Bayruth, and just after a Trooper hung himself in the gym and just after the Commo chief was killed in an auto accident. I remember the welcome I got from the CQ, "welcome to the rock, enjoy your stay" I remember our Trp Cmdr (LT John R Landry) getting married at the post chapel, His daddy was a 2-star and there were LTCs opening car doors for the guests. He rode out the front gate with his bride in a "highly shined" M-114. I recall the Sec of Army's drawn down of troopers to meet the build up of the Viet Nam war, we had enough men to drive the vehicles out the front gate during alerts (two men per track/wheeled veh)

Tell us a little about you now.

I reenlisted while at the Rock and spent a total of 6 years on active duty with my last assignment at 5th Army NCO Academy, Ft Riley, KS. The best experience I had at Riley was to be present at Chief's funneral. Chief was the last Cavalry horse on the army's role. He was 36 years old. The tune "Gary Owens" was greatly apprecated. After my active days I went on to spend another 33 years in the Army reserves where I retired out as a CSM. I presently live just outside of Ft Benning and looking forward to the Armor Center coming down from Ft Knox I work for a company called CenturyTel.
