YES:  There was a taxi stand across the street from the barracks, Fritz Taxi, also there w3as a dry cleaner and laundry run by Peter Hillenbrand and his girl friend or daughter not sure which.  The DP camp was definately OFF Limits , but it did have a gasthaus in it which some of us frequented and ran a tab.  I think now that a l;ot of the people in the camp where actually ethnic Germans run out of Checjkslovakia at the end of the war.  The Christensen Barracks itself had been destroyed at the end of the war by us.  Then we decided that we needed that post and rebuilt them .
Ironically the same Major that destroyed them , re=built them a few years later not sure of the time line.  Our fellow member on this site Wilfred Collins was one of the first to use them, he was 2nd Cav.

Philip, the first building as you enter on the right at Amburg in 59-61 and 62-64 was I troops Billits and 3rd Squadron Headquarters on first floor.  I never knew that the EM club was there.  If I remember right it was over by the PX.

      Toujours Pret Philip,
Welcome to the new DragoonBase, the new Base has plenty of newer features, lots of sub-groups,(ie,F-Trp,Amberg,Medics,etc.) and links for 2nd Cav News and History.
Robb Russell has posted some tips for navigating the site (ie,photos, links, ect) in the Forum.
Make sure you stop by and read the latest Tacoma Dave ‘Triva Quiz’, learn some 2nd Cav history and you can even win a kool prize.
If you need any help, you can contact Robb, or any of the 5 admins listed at the top of the page, or just yell out, another member may be able to help you.
And our only wish, ‘Keep it clean’, use our Real names/with Pictures(pix from back in the day, work best for searching for Brothers, but any picture will do).
And that you please tell all your friends about the new DragoonBase.

Thanks again for joining Dragoon Base, and for your service to our great country,
      Jesse Kelley

Tell us a little about your cav days.

THERE WAS A SMALL VILLAGE NEARBY - I BELIEVE IT WAS CALLED DEPS THAT HAD A GASTHAUS THAT WE FREQUENTED. ACROSS THE ROAD FROM THE MAIN GATE OF C.B. WAS A REFUGEE CAMP AND A TAXI STAND CALLED FRITZ TAXI. THERE WERE MANY RUINED BUILDINGS ON TNE BASE THAT HAD BEEN BLOWN UP AFTER THE WAR. AS I'M SURE YOU KNOW C.B. WAS A LUFTWAFFE BASE DURING WW II. I WONDER HOW IT LOOKS TODAY?
