From Dec 1986 - Feb 1992 while stationed at Bindach C TRP 1st PLT 1/2 ACR were the best years i can remember of the army. Times were hard but times were fun, the excitement of the border and having a real world mission ment to me at the time you work hard and play even harder and man did we.The leadership and guidance i received has served me throughout my 20 years as a 19D and well on into the civilian world.

hey carter, good to hear from you man!! i swear i would probably never remembered you till i got your email a couple weeks ago(me and my wife just got back from the bahamas). i got your message 2 days before we left,i was busy man , trying to get everything together. anyway, how have you been?? been doing that iraq/afganistan thing?? i salute you and all the troops and men and women who serve.(tojures pret)!!!! i always tell people, if you aint been comitted to the military and ready to serve...just be quiet cause you dont know! i see you went to ft.polk when yoou left bindlach. i was at ft.polk before i got to bindlach. i was in hhc 3/6 inf(mech)....for 3yrs i was down there!!and before that i was in kirchgoens germany(as a pvt)in 1981....place was called ayers kaserne....close to giessen/frankfurt. had a blast. so, tell me what happened to the guys you mentioned . i remember all of them,. hurley was my roommate. dan gastelum also...i sent him a facebook msg but he never responded. its funny, guys always talk about getting out and being short, but when you turn 40(if youve been out for awhile), you really miss the army days! i have some buddies here that we get together and talk about all that stuff. guys i went to school with,we were all stationed in germany at the same time so we get it. even my little brother came to visit me in 86 from permisans germany on thanksgiving. me,him, gaddy, pickron(the cook), bunch of guys just drank in my room i think. by the way i have a ton of pictures of that time. i hope you got some pics. i got pics of leach and all those guys! ill close for now. hit my fb page...later
Congrats on making it to 20 and retiring. I made it 8 and just couldn't take it anymore...it was about the time the 2nd ACR was deactivated and reactivated at Ft. Lewis that I got out.
I think all of us that were with Gravens took away with us his leadership style. I know it really stuck with me. Couldn't have asked for a better role model as a young soldier. I never came close to having another Platoon Sgt. half as good as him.
As for Figueroa...how the hell did he make SFC? How the hell did I end up being his gunner with Pvt. Horning as our driver. I wonder if I pissed SFC Gravens off or something :)
Wishing you many more, from all of us at DragoonBase..
