Tell us a little about your cav days.
One of the best units I was in. The 2ND ACR set the tone for me to stay 20 years in the ARMY. Being an air cav I got to ride in UH1's and OH58's several times in my 3 years. One of the best stories when I was in an UH1 with Maj Turillo because he said that he had to get some flying time in, and he asked if I wanted to fly with him. He did an auto rotation (I didn't know it). He said that we lost our engine. When we landed he said wasn't that fun and I said no and got out. Scared the carp out of me.
Tell us a little about you now.
I enter the Army with a friend for 2 years active 4 years inactive. 2nd ACR was my first unit and I love it. Like I said 2nd ACR set the tone for me to stay in 20 years. My friend got assigned to the 1st cav and he hated it and got out after his 2 years. During my 20 years I alway held positions that we 1 or 2 ranks higher than I was. SFC Montgomery told me to alway reach for what I wanted. I wanted to be a Warrant officer, I tried when I was an E5 (1978) but didn't make it. Finally when I was an E7 (because I alway held higher position I got picked up for E7 out of the secondary zone and made E7 in 10 years) I finished the Warrant Officer training and got promoted to WO1 (915A Maintenance Warrant 1989) Again I held position higher than my rank. I held CW2, CW3 and CPT (class 9 officer, support ops 724 main support bn) slots in my 6 years as a warrant. I retired as a CW2. I would not trade my time in the Army for anything.
