What unit(s) did you serve in with the 2d Cavalry?
I have never been an US Army member, I`m a German civilian who is simply interested for 2nd ACR. I guess that`s so because as child I liked to watch the FTX the guys do in the 1980´s near my residence, that was a great time for me I will never forget.
Where were you stationed?
I live in Germany, Oberfranken not far away from Camp Gates, Camp Pitman or Camp Hof. The distance to Camp Harris, Camp May or Camp Reed is about 100 km.
What MOS or job description did you have?
I´m a civil engineer for road construction and do my job at the German Autobahn (highway), my office is at the former Roehrensee Barracks in Bayreuth.
What was your rank/title?
Because I´m a civilian, I have no rank.
What years were you assigned to the 2nd Cavalry?
I`m not assigned to 2nd ACR, but I liked to watch their exercises in Oberfranken and Oberpfalz in the late Seventies and Eighties.
Tell us a little about your cav days.
As a child I liked to watch the FTX of 2nd ACR and enjoyed the MCIs and MREs the guys gave to me (The Chocolate Nut Roll or the Cherry Nut Cake was great!). Today I´m still interested for that unit, sometimes take a visit to Camp Gates or some other former Border Camps.
Tell us a little about you now.
I assigned to that site because I want to share some present photos from your former installations or some other German places you might know. Also hope to find some vintage pics from you which show you moving in the field (I already did!) and change information.
Name a few buddies you served with that you would like to find.
I would like to find SP4 Michael Aernouts, member of a M1 tank crew. He served in Bindlach, A Troop, 1/2 ACR, APO NY 09411. He wrote me a letter after I met him in a FTX. I guess it was 1984.

Happy birthday Hagen.
Wow. I remember how great that chocolate bar tasted out in the field! thanks for the memories Hagen.
Yes, it is sad that Camp Cates was demolished. I also had good memories to that place, we often drove "our rounds" with the bike there as children. To my knowledge Camp Gates is the only 2nd ACR Camp that was demolished. Camp Harris, Hof, Pitman, Reed and May are fortunately still there. Hagen
Wow,all I can say is I really enjoyed my time at Gates. But all things come to pass. Thanks for the Pics Hagen.
It is sad Camp Gates was demolished. I had many good memories of the
times I was there. I was hoping to visit in the near future.

My dad worked at the Roehrensee Barracks 1953-55. We lived on Parsifalstrasse near the Wagner Opera Haus. I spent my first birthday there.
