Jim, you are right, it is Topping and not Topper. I don't remember him as being the greatest, the last I remember of him we were at Camp May on a Border tour. I did run into him at Fort Know in later years but don't really know what happened to him after that. 1SG Folger was my fist permanent duty 1SG. He was tough, fair and really took care of us. I remember a couple of times he could have really slammed me hard but didn't. I certainly learned some leadeship traits from him and applied them when I was in leadership positions.

I started in K troop but transferred to Hq I was there from 64 to 67. I remember 1sg Folger he was a good guy. do you have any idea where he might be residing

Thought it was a little ironic that both our troop CO's went on to be 65th and 67th regimental commanders respectively, and are pictured standing next to each other at the reunion. Tom Molino was my troop CO when I was in C Trp 74-75, and went on to be President of the 2nd Cavalry Association. He just stepped down a couple months ago after serving the Association for better than 10 years.

Tom Molino took over C Trp from "Ranger Pete" Schoomaker, my other troop CO, in 74. Pete went on to command Delta Force before retiring. President Bush brought him out of retirement to be Chief of Staff of the Army.

Welcome to the base! I see we both spent some time at Pond Barracks too.

      Toujours Pret Jim,
Welcome to the new DragoonBase, the new Base has plenty of newer features, lots of sub-groups,(ie,F-Trp,Amberg,Medics,etc.) and links for 2nd Cav News and History.
Robb Russell has posted some tips for navigating the site (ie,photos, links, ect) in the Forum.
Make sure you stop by and read the latest Tacoma Dave ‘Triva Quiz’, learn some 2nd Cav history and you can even win a kool prize.
If you need any help, you can contact Robb, or any of the 5 admins listed at the top of the page, or just yell out, another member may be able to help you.
And our only wish, ‘Keep it clean’, use our Real names/with Pictures(pix from back in the day, work best for searching for Brothers, but any picture will do).
And that you please tell all your friends about the new DragoonBase.

Thanks again for joining Dragoon Base, and for your service to our great country,
      Jesse Kelley

Tell us a little about your cav days.

I remember some of it like it was yesterday. Camp Gates, Hof, Graf, Wildflicken and the rest of it. Troop Commander was 1LT/Cpt Leonard D. Holder. 1SG Folger, I ran into him a few years later in Nam. I often think of Ray Bjerke, William Unger (stick buddy), Dan Sturdivant, Jimmy L. Black, Bob Haney, Booker T McDowell, Ed Conery and SFC Dalata (Troop Motor Sgt). If any of you see this please drop me a line.

Tell us a little about you now.

I retired from the Army in 88 after 22 years. I went to the 10th Special Forces Group in Bad Toelz when I left the Cav. After training group and other stuff, on to Nam. I spent most of my stateside assignments at Ft Bragg, and overseas was all over the place. Germany, Panama, Korea, Siani Desert in Egypt, Nam. When I retired I decided to stay in the Ft Bragg area, and live in Raeford, NC
