      MERRITT, I went to ft meade hq 9/57.  Do you remember what the names were of the 1st sgt and officers?  I only remember Sgt Holmes.

      I was in the 3d Bn from 52-57 and gyroscoped to Meade in 55.  Although I was Armor I was the CO of How 3. and took them through the firing test at A.P. Hill in the fall of 56,  Perhaps you were there.  I remember 1st  How was First, we were second  followed by How2.  Our aiming circle slipped and we almost shot our FO.

    What unit(s) did you serve in with the 2d Cavalry?

    1st Howitzer Battery and its predcessor: B Battery, 70th Armored Field Artillery BN at Merrell Barracks. Would you believe that in 1954, I was standing with the regiment in Nuremberg in unitorm when 1st HOW BAT was created and then 50 years later, I was standing with the regiment in uniform at Fort Polk, LA when it was deactivated to become the 4th or ARTY squadron?

    Merrell Barracks, Nuremberg; Bindlach Kaserne, Bayreuth & Fort George G. Meade, MD.


    What MOS or job description did you have?

    Artillery Mechanic Reconn Sergeant Cannoneer Fire Direction


    What was your rank/title?

    PFC & SP4


    What years were you assigned to the 2nd Cavalry?

    1954-1956
