      Hey Bob,

      I noticed you were a "shooter". Did you ever compete in any matches in Pegnitz, south of Bayreuth?

       

      That was dad's last competition, when he fired with the polizei there and won the match in 1954. I still have the plaque he was awarded.

       

      Most of his shooting was done in the late 1920's through 1948. He was awarded the Distinguished Marksman's Badge in 1935 and won the Camp Perry Rifle Matches in the National Guard division. He also won the National Guard Championship at Ft Lewis that year. He was buried with the DMB in 1983. It was one of his proudest possessions.

       

      Most of his medals were stolen many years ago, but you can see some of the remaining ones on my website.

      Was assigned to B trp 1st plt s a tank driver, left there summer of 62, took basic with the 2ACR at Ft. Meade and then by ship to Germany spent a couple of years on the gate moved to B Trp from How Battery, 1960

      Toujours Pret Rob,
      Welcome to the new DragoonBase, the site has plenty of newer features, lots of sub-groups,(ie,F-Trp,Amberg,Medics,etc.) and links for 2nd Cav News and History.
      Robb Russell has posted some tips for navigating the site(ie,photos,ect) in the Forum.
      If you need any help, you can contact Robb, or myself, or just yell out another member may be able to help.
      And his only wish that ‘We keep it clean’, use our real names/with pictures, and you tell all your friends about the new DragoonBase.

    What years were you assigned to the 2nd Cavalry?

    1962-1965


    Tell us a little about your cav days.

    Moved around a lot with rifle team. Have many fond memories, many friends made. Special memories of Hof and Kronach. And coming from Southern California, learned about snow and cold and loved the open jeeps to tour around in the heart of Winters.


    Tell us a little about you now.

    Retired, and traveling. Did live in Paradise, CA . Bad fire 2018, now in Chico, CA. Have six kids and five grand babies. Very busy reminding children about the birds and bees, I'm 76 ( 2021 )
