Hi Sigmund - I know what you mean - we had the same with the replacement of the M-59 APC the M-113 APC.but the biggest problem we had with both of them was being power by gasoline engines, later they did change the engine to diesel in the M-113, But I never understand why the Army at that time used.gas in every armored vehicles, the Germans taught us a lesson in ww2 by using diesel fuel, that's why the M-4 Sherman tank got the neck name Ronson lighter. the M-48A3 was the first Tank with diesel, but our M-88 recovery vehicle was still gas until the M-1 came out.- see attached photos Dragoon for life Chief.
Thanks for the welcome Sigmund. Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I am just now figuring out how to navigate this site. I started with the US Forest Service on the Big Bear Ranger District in 1969. Made a career out of it and retired in 2002 out of Redding, CA. Went to work for CalFire the next day as a crew captain for 6 years until my back had to be fused. I'd probably still be working for them if that wouldn't have taken me down. My wife Wendy and I have been working as lookouts since 2011. We live at Timber Mountain Lookout in our travel trailer. Timber Mountain is one of 5 lookouts on the Modoc NF. They are all contracted lookouts. Wendy commutes daily 18 miles to her lookout in the Lava Beds National Monument (Schonchin Butte). She's hired as a temporary employee with the Park Service each summer. She has a 1 mile hike up and back each day. We had a place in Shingletown, CA for several m years and then sold it and became full time RVers. We wintered in San Jacinto for a few years. Our place was in the Heritage Ranch Senior Park. We sold it in 2015 and now live in Green River, Utah.
Happy birthday Sig l hope you are enjoying your day stay well my friend.
Thanks for the welcome note brother!!
