Mike, I neglected to tell you that Top Miller lost Trudy a week or so ago. I knew you would want to know. He said he would be back on the base later.

What unit(s) did you serve in with the 2d Cavalry?

1st.sqdn. 2nd armor cav unit When I first got to rock everybody on post was gone to graf...I was one of the lucky ones that got to stay on post ( for a while anyway ) All the guy's in the S-2 section was really a great ...they all took me in and I felt that i belonged the very first day. I remember they were working on all the barracks when I got there, I believe Headquarters troop was the only one actually finished...The rooms were really nice the flooring was a bright red tile..

    Where were you stationed?

Basic and AIT also APC school at Fort Knox Kentucky... Then left for Gemany of November 1968 spent one night at merrell Barracks, woke up hearing bowling pins falling, we were over top of a small bowling alley.. I remember going down stairs that morning and running into Jim Cocran from Corydon Indiana who I went through basic training with. we were shipped out later that night and ended up at christiansen Barracks/ Binlach Germany(The Rock) where the cold wind hit you just about just about every direction at once....

What MOS or job description did you have?

17k20/ Radar/ I was also the driver of HQ112 APC Carrier at first and then took over the 557 Command Track . HQ 22

    What was your rank/title?

    sp/5

What years were you assigned to the 2nd Cavalry?

1968/1969/1970 when I got to the Rock back in Nov.68 the weather was cold and foggy, I couldn't tell where I was or anything about the rock for about 3 months, and finally the sun came out, for awhile I didn't think the sun ever would shine in that country...they wanted me to get a drivers license, I told them I did't want too because I didn't know if I wanted to drive in that country,, but later I found out it was one of the best things that I ever done, I got to see alot of the country, Went to weiden and pulled several alerts, I'm sure everone that was ever there remember those...It was alot better pulling them than having to be doing it....One of the officers was capt. Barns and the other was a warrant officer, and I can't remember his name, He was a black man about 35 years old really great guy, I took him and family to Frankfurt to rotate back to the states...

Tell us a little about your cav days.

I was in the s-2 section Headquarters troop... I was a Radar Team leader and was stationed on the Border several times at camp pittman...We were one of the first radar teams to be on the border at time. It was right after the Russian invaision....I remember getting snowed in on the border,no one coming in and no one going out....

Tell us a little about you now.

Me and my wife Becky will be married 42 years this coming March 4. We have 2 sons Josh 37 and his wife Emily have 2 sons Austin is now 9 years old and Brandon is going on 4 years old, we try and spoil them as much as we can, good little fishing buddies...My other son Adam will be 30 on December 12' he got married this past May to Lara , they are looking to build them a new home soon, we wish them all are best...I went through open heart surgery in June 17, 2010 I had a sever leakage of the aortic valve, they replaced with a pig valve, I seem to be doing very well so far, I finally went back to work right after labor day, I worked 2 weeks and they terminated me,said it had nothing to do with my age or health, good old american shit canned.....ole well they probably done me a favor more than they realize,It was a filthy place really bad work conditions, they seem to like hiring all the foreign people/ cheap labor.... Trying to stay active, a little fishing, playing golf, and enjoying our grandkids !
